July-August.
Ripe when deep dark red (almost purple) and they come off the plant easily - pick every couple of days.
Looking after loganberry
- A cross between a raspberry and a blackberry - tie the long canes along wires on a fence
- After picking, cut the canes that fruited down to the ground, and tie in this year's new ones
- Spread compost round it every spring
Storing and keeping
Eat within a day or two, or freeze on a tray. Sharper than a raspberry - brilliant in jam and crumbles.
Pests and problems
Birds - net it as the berries colour. Watch for maggots of raspberry beetle in the fruit.
Good varieties
- LY 654: The thornless loganberry - much easier to pick.
