How to build a sweet pea wigwam
Sweet peas climb with curly tendrils and smell wonderful. On a wigwam they make a tower of flowers - in a big pot on the patio or in a border - and the more you pick, the more they flower.

Tools
- Scissors
Step by step
- Fill a big pot (40cm or wider) with compost, or pick a sunny spot in a border and mark a circle about 60cm across.
- Push 6 canes in round the edge, about 20cm deep, leaning in towards the middle.
- Pull the tops together and tie them tightly where they cross.
- Wind string round the wigwam in a spiral from bottom to top. Sweet peas hold on with tendrils, and the string gives them more to grab.
- Plant two sweet peas at the foot of each cane and tie them in loosely. When they have 3-4 pairs of leaves, pinch the tip off each one so it bushes out.
- Pick the flowers every few days and put them in a vase. If they're left to make seed pods, they stop flowering.
Tips
- Water pots every day in summer - sweet peas hate drying out.
- Pick in the morning when the scent is strongest.
